District Court - Jhabua

The Jhabua Law Courts opened by MRS C KIRKBRIDE on Feb 22nd 1941. Shri B N Saxena was the 1st District and Sessions Judge of Jhabua. At present there are 10 courts including Family Court working in Jhabua. There are 10 judges Smt Vidhi Saxena is the present Principal District Judge of Jhabua. Petlawad & Thandla are Tehsil courts of District Jhabua. One Civil Judge 1st class and one civil judge 2nd class are working at Tehsil Court Thandla and one Additional District Judge and Two Civil Judge 2nd class are working at Tehsil Court Petlawad, both the places (total 05 judges in number). FAMOUS TRIALS JHABUA NUNS RAPE CASE- The Jhabua nuns rape case was a case of rape of nuns in the Jhabua district in Madhya Pradesh in 1998 by a group of 24 men. The incident dates back to 23-24 September, 1998, when a group of person gang-raped three nuns residing in Preeti Sharan Seva Kendra in Navapara, 25 km away from the district headquarters Jhabua. They had also looted cash and valuables from the place of worship. The crime had not only shocked the nation, but also caused outrage at international level. The state government was severely criticized for its failure to protect the missionaries. In 2001, the district and sessions court presided by District Judge K.C. Jain sentenced 17 persons to life imprisonment for their involvement in the gangrape of nuns, while acquitting seven others after the prosecution failed to prove their involvement in the case. MINOR GET LIFE IMPRISONMENT- In a rare case of juveniles being tried as adults, two minors were sentenced to life imprisonment for stabbing a teenager to death in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh on 28/2/2017. This is the first life term to minors in Madhya Pradesh under the amended Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. Judge A.A. Khan of a sessions court in Jhabua also fined Rs. 10,000 on duo aged 17 and 16. They were convicted for brutally murdering a class IX student, Radhu Singh, on December 5, 2016. .
