District Karbi Anglong, located in the Indian state of Assam, is a hidden gem that embodies natural beauty and cultural richness. Karbi Anglong’s landscapes are a sight to behold, with majestic mountain ranges, meandering rivers, and lush valleys. Karbi Anglong also boasts stunning waterfalls that cascade down from the hills, mesmerizing all who witness them. The enchanting beauty of Deopani Falls and the majestic splendor of Karbi Langpi Falls are just a glimpse of the natural wonders that await exploration. The lush valleys and meadows of Karbi Anglong provide a serene respite from the bustle of daily life. The history of the judiciary system in Karbi Anglong dates back to the colonial era. During British rule, a system of courts was established to administer justice. Over the years, the system evolved, adapting to the changing needs and aspirations of the people in Karbi Anglong. An independent judiciary system plays a crucial role in ensuring fair and equal access to justice. It upholds the rule of law, promotes transparency, and ensures impartiality in the judicial process, thereby contributing to a more equitable justice system in the district. The Hon’ble Gauhati High Court, in response to a writ petition (WP (C) 5873/2006), has taken a crucial step towards establishing an independent judiciary. A division bench, led by Chief Justice AK Goel and Justice AK Goswami, made a noteworthy observation. They emphasized that while the legislature may exclude the Code of Civil Procedure and the Code of Criminal Procedure from customary courts or courts managed by executive officers, this exclusion cannot be applied to regular courts. As a result, this decision has paved the way for separating the judiciary from the executive in the district of Karbi Anglong. The Judicial Court of Karbi Anglong was formally inaugurated on 12th August 2017 by the esteemed Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Ajit Singh, in the presence of Justice Hrishikesh Roy, along with other distinguished judicial officers. This momentous event was graced by the presence of notable personalities such as Judge Amuriddin Ali, Nishanta Goswami, Justice A Dey, and Rita Konwar, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Nagaon court.It is worth mentioning that Adil Khan, the Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong, held the distinction of being the last non-judicial officer to serve as the District Session Judge of Karbi Anglong. This gathering of esteemed individuals marked a significant milestone in the establishment of the judicial system in Karbi Anglong. Inaugurating the judicial court building, Chief Justice said “Today is yet another day when the history of Assam judiciary is going to see the sun rising in the Karbi Anglong district.” Portfolio Judge, Karbi Anglong Alfaz Ali said in his speech “In a democracy to rule the nation there are three important pillars Legislative, Executive, and Judiciary. He said with a separate and independent judiciary people will get their grievances heard.” Judge Incharge, Administrative department, Gauhati High Court Hrishikesh Roy said “The long-awaited demand of the people of Karbi Anglong has been fulfilled today.” The inauguration ceremony was a testament to the commitment and dedication of the judiciary in ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law in the region.
