District Court - Tirap

The Court of District & Sessions Judge, Tirap was established in the year 2019 with Shri. Hirendra Kashyap as the first District & Sessions Judge of Khonsa Sessions division and Court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class Cum Civil Judge (Junior Division) was established in the year 2013 with Shri. Damge Niri as the first judge of the JMFC Court. The territorial jurisdiction of Khonsa Sessions division includes Tirap, Changlang, and Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh. The District & Sessions Court was also constituted/designated as the Special Court for NDPS Act, POCSO Act, Human Rights, MACT etc. in the year 2020. DISTRICT LEGAL AID SERVICES AUTHORITY (DLSA) Legal Aid Services are provided in the district through District Legal Aid Services Authority (DLSA). The weaker sections of the society who are in need of legal aid and could not afford legal case can approach the office of DLSA, Khonsa located within the Court complex. Legal literacy and awareness programmes are conducted in the district from time to time by the DLSA involving the panel lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers (PLV). Such programmes help in creating Legal awareness amongst the general public especially the women and other vulnerable sections of the society. The target groups in such programmes includes women, school children, village Goan Boras and Goan Boris etc. Legal aid clinic is established in the Court complex where the panel advocates & PLVs provide legal consultancy and advised to the legal aid seekers. The victims of domestic violence and other crimes against women and children are provided legal aid counsel for Court based legal service as well as legal counselling. National Lok Adalats are occasionally conducted to settle both the compoundable crime cases as well as civil dispute and other pre-litigation cases. TIRAP DISTRICT The District Court (DSJ and JMFC) is at Khonsa which is the district headquarters of Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh. The land measuring approximately 2362 Sq.Kms surrounded by unique picturesque hills in the southernmost part of Arunachal Pradesh is Tirap District. It lies between the latitudes 26º 38’ N and 27º 47’ N and the longitudes 96º 16’ E and 95º 40’ E. The District derived its name from the River Tirap which originates from a high peak in Laju Circle. It shares a state border with Nagaland and Assam, an international border with Myanmar and a district border with Changlang and Longding Districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
