District Court - Una

The present Una District until 1st November, 1966 was one of the Tehsil of the Hoshiarpur District of Punjab. Consequent upon reorganization of Punjab all the hill areas including Una Tehsil was transferred to Himachal Pradesh. Eversince, until September, 1972 it continued to remain as Tehsil of the then Kangra District. On the 1st September,1972 the Himachal Pradesh Government reorganised the then Kangra District into three Districts namely Una, Hamirpur and Kangra. There was a permanent court of Sub Judge, Una under the District & Sessions Judge, Hoshiarpur, Punjab w.e.f 1935. Thereafter, reorganization of Districts in Himachal Pradesh there was one District and Sessions Judge for Una and Hamirpur Districts w.e.f 01.09.1972 to 31.12.1984. The Court of District & Sessions Judge was created w.e.f 01.01.1985 for Una District . At present Una District consists of four Sub Division Namely Una, Amb, Bangana and Haroli. Presently, there are 11 Courts in District Una i.e 8 Courts at District headquarter including 3 appellate Courts, 5 Subordinate Courts at Una District Headquarters (also the Addl. District & Sessions Judge-II Una Holds Circuit Court at Amb Sub Division for One week in every month) and 3 Courts at Sub Divisional headquarters at Amb. Besides this a District Consumer Redressal Forum Una is also functioning in this District. Apart from above, the District and Sessions Judge Una is also holding the Office of Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Una HP which provides various schemes through Mediation Center, Front Office, Legal Aid Clinic and also organizing Quarterly Lok Adalat(s) as well as National Lok Adalat(s). One Judicial officer has also been posted as Secretary to District Legal Services Authority Una, HP to implement the various Schemes of National Legal Services Authority and HP State Legal Services Authority
