District Court - Tonk
Tonk District is located in North-Eastern part of Rajasthan. It is situated on National Highway No.-12 at distance of 100 k.m. from Jaipur. It is surrounded by five Districts i.e. in North – Jaipur District, In South – Bundi & Bhilwara District, in East – Ajmer District and in West – Sawai-Madhopur District. It is important to mention here that the first founder ruler of Tonk was Nawab Mohd. Amir Khan who conquered it from Balwant Rao Holkar in 1806. Later, the British Government gained it from Amir Khan. As per the treaty of 1817, British Government returned it to Amir Khan. In 1947, on the Partition of India whereby India and Pakistan gained independence, the Nawab of Tonk decided to accede to the Union of India. Subsequently, most of the area of the state of Tonk was integrated into the Rajasthan state, while some of its eastern enclaves became part of Madhya Pradesh. Nawab Amir khan established a SARASHARIYAT COURT in 1817 which was used to decide Civil, Criminal and Revenue disputes. Aggrieved parties might prefer appeals before Judicial/Revenue members against the Judgements of SARASHARIYAT COURT. Later on, during the regime of Nawab Ibrahim Ali Khan, with the interference of British Government, separate courts were established for Civil, Criminal & Revenue disputes. “Maal Courts” were established for revenue disputes. Presiding Officer of “Maal Court” was called Nazim, who had powers to decide criminal disputes also. Court of Munsifs were established to decide Civil disputes. After independence, Tonk empire was merged in Rajasthan State. Then the SARASHARIYAT COURT were abolished. Upto June, 1977 Tonk was part of Jaipur Sessions Division. Court of District & Sessions Judge in Tonk was established on 01-07-1977. Shri Prem Chand Jain was the first District & Sessions Judge of Tonk. Tonk District is divided in eight Taluka Headquarters namely Tonk, Newai, Malpura, Uniara, Deoli, Dooni,Todaraisingh and Peeplu. Shri Ayub Khan is the District and Sessoins Judge of Tonk Judgeship.
